Combitube is a blind insertion airway device, designed for use in emergency situations and difficult airways. It is a very useful device in the emergency medicine and prehospital settings since placing it does therefore not require laryngoscopy skills or any additional equipment.
It supplies enough ventilation when tube is inside of trachea or esophagus.
The esophageal tracheal airway is available in two sizes, and the recommendation is to use the smaller 37 Fr device for patients under 5 feet (152 cm) height and the larger 41 Fr size for patients taller than that. This device is not suited for use in pediatric patients.
